1960: Nixon sweats in the spotlight
The first-ever televised presidential debate was held on September 26, 1960, and it certainly made history. Many election historians believe that Vice President Richard Nixon's profuse sweating and unshaven face hurt him with television viewers, and possibly cost him the election. Opponent John F. Kennedy, on the other hand, appeared calm, attractive, and in-control.
